"There is a brilliant child locked inside every student."  -- Marva Collins

My name is Ann Thompson.  I grew up in Knoxville and earned an undergraduate degree in English and then a Master's in Education with a specialty in Special Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I am certified in Special Education with endorsements to teach students K-12 who have identified disabilities ranging in scope from mild to medically profound. Through the course of my career I have worked with children of all age ranges and performance levels.  My daily goal is to learn from my students, their parents, and my fellow teachers how to become a better teacher.

At Highland Park Elementary my role as a Special Education teacher includes providing intervention support to students who benefit from extra assistance in reaching grade level goals.  I work with each student's parents, classroom teacher, and Highland Park administrators to develop and implement an individual education plan tailored to foster positive academic and developmental growth.  My team also includes two experienced and knowledgeable paraprofessionals who have hearts bent toward helping students reach their individual potentials.
